Close House was established in 1962 by John and Margaret Robson. Margaret, a Nursing Sister in Hexham Hospital discovered there were not any suitable places for elderly people to go after receiving hospital care. At the time Close House was the first Care Home to open in Northumberland, however it was the 2nd registered with Northumberland County Council. Opening as a single farmhouse, we have grown over the years to accommodate 22 elderly residents with nursing, residential and dementia needs. Close House continues to run in the Robson family today alongside a team of 30 excellent staff.

What we offer?
At Close House we strive to provide person centred care to elderly residents who have nursing, residential or dementia needs. This includes single room accommodation, over two floors, with lift access to the second floor. The majority of the rooms have wonderful views over the Hexhamshire countryside. Resident lounges and a dining room are located on the ground floor with views overlooking our well cared for gardens, which is wheelchair friendly and can be enjoyed by residents and their relatives. All our meals are home cooked and can be taken in the dining room or in the resident’s own room. Activities are facilitated by our staff daily. A regular church service is provided by a local Church of England minister and residents are free to attend if they wish.

Trained and competent staff are on-duty at all times and the standard of personal care is consistently high. Staffing levels always exceed the minimum standard. An in-house laundry manages all the homes and resident’s laundry requirements. WiFi is available throughout the home. We also have an extensive library of large print books which always proves popular. Optional additional services are provided as and when necessary such as: Physiotherapists, Dentists, Audiologists, Opticians, Podiatrists and a Hairdresser visits regularly.
Who do we care for?
We care for individuals both male and female over the age of 65 with nursing, residential or dementia needs. We provide end of life care when necessary to the highest standard. Respite care can be provided when beds are available. Day care may be possible for individuals, please contact us via telephone to discuss the possibility of day care. We encourage visits to Close House from potential residents and their families prior to admission and we can hopefully answer any queries you may have about life at Close House.
